The Decay Kiteboards' Scimitar - our cross between a wave and skim board - has been re-developed. The new Scimitar is available with a foam or wood core, depending on how alive you want the board to feel under your feet. Keep an eye on our website for the updated info, but for now here's a sneak preview of the board.

Paua shell Mutant

If you are going to own a mutant kiteboard, why not make it even more special... this Cutlass 142 x 42 made from paulownia with red wood stringers, paua shell inlays and a clear finish was shipped just before Christmas.
The colours will only get richer as the board ages, but what a beauty - now everyone in the factory wants paua in their boards...

With Christmas coming fast our production is not slowing down. There are still a couple of slots available for custom orders for shipping before the 25th.

The factory has been flat out with the new release of NZ camo colours on our production boards this week - Rasta, CMYK and Prime colour options available now!

We started three not so run of the mill customs today:

A 140x32 asym speed board, a 140x42.5 Cutlass mutant with curved redwood stringers and tiny 112x38 for a special application. We like doing all boards, but it is the unusual ones that are the most interesting

Hi, Rob here from Raglan. Got out on my new board today and it was as i expected , briiliant!!! Well done Dave and Sue for making the board do what i wanted. The board was great in the chop and performed so well in the waves. I felt very confident hitting the waves at speed and carving along the face even when the waves were covered in chop. Very very pleased. Roll on tomorrow for more great kiting! Cheers Rob

Awesome new board hardware

No matter what angle you look at it from the new footstrap/pad combo looks good, has great adjustment options and is comfortable.

The pad can be turned on the inserts to allow for more or less duck and can be shifted closer to the heel-side edge if required.

The handle is large and easy to grip.

The fins are made from the strong and trusted G10.

All the screws and washers are marine grade stainless steel. The slotted fastening system means that you can find an implement to tighten a screw in any situation. All the screws are the same size, so if you do happen to lose one you can use the less important handle screw for the more important fin or strap.

Paulownia is a lovely wood to make boards from. This stack of cores is light enough to be handled by two people with ease and is enough to make 25 boards.

If you are in Samoa from 1 to 9 August, you are welcome to meet up with the Decay crew at Lano beach, Savaii for a session on an 09/10 Decay Falcata. This is going to be the board of choice for all the freestylers out there and not a bad all rounder either. All the sizes will be available to try and the wind report is looking fantastic.

Wind is GOOD - too good to be stuck in the workshop. Shut the doors and headed to the beach today, powered on my 8m Light and 2m+ swell coming in. NICE. As winter here fades into spring, I was able to grab a few chilly

Not our design BUT we are in involved in the project.

200m from the Decay Factory is Roger Hall's Surfline Surfboards, and they make the very best custom surfboards in New Zealand. The above board is a chambered timber (mix species) 'Speed Dialer' a quad fin fish that should also kite very well.

Roger has got us to produce parts for these boards on our CNC machine, and we are currently working on a stock production for his showroom. We also hope to have kitesurfing version avaliable some time in the future.

Here's another Falcata 135 x 40 out of the press and ready to ship. This board is proving popular with big and small. SuK who's sworn that 130 is as big as she needs at 65kg's just loves it. The stable platform and amazing dryness and comfourt of the ride even in choppy conditions has her sold and one is in her bag on the way to South Africa.

DK's back in the laminating bay

SuK's off to South Africa for a month so after having her doing all the laminating for several seasons now DK's had to get back in there and relearn what he taught her in the first place... this beauty was the result, not bad for an out of practice laminator!

Ps. It's a Broadsword 142x42, with NZ camo deck and grey base and has gone into the showroom stock untill the wind drops off enough to put it in the demo fleet. So if you were looking for a board with a NZ flavour you better be in quick to grab it.

Wooohoo, we are heading into winter... yes you may role your eyes at the thought of cold weather kiting, but here at the Decay Kiteboards Factory it generally means more wind and that is WIND and less people wanting to learn which = more water time and kiteboard development time!!!

So before we can make new demo and prototype boards we need to shift the current stuff, so if any of these catch your eye, or you're thinking of adding a board to your quiver, drop us a line.

Speaking of which we have a set of Mystic d30 Shockpads and straps to try - we are looking at offering these to our customers as an added option in the future, because we know everyone's feet are different. They come in several sexy colour combo's, but this black with silver detail is a favourite so far.

This is a custom Dagger 132 x 39cm that was made for Rob Hills, top freestyle buggyer, power-kite and kitesurf instructor and all-round good guy based in Llandudno, UK. Rob wanted a narrower board than the standard Dagger and also wanted stiffness between his feet and flexi tips. This is what Rob has to say about the board DK designed up for him after his first session on it:

"Now I think the board is fantastic. It looks amazing and those that have seen it have also thought the same. The profile works very well and is nice and smooth under foot.
I like the way it carves and keeps planing speed when you turn on a wave and travel with the wave. It has a lovely controlled loose feel being able to switch and slide from heel to toe.
I love the clean water release and the shape of the wake when you turn to ride down the wave, just a beautifull flow of water from the board.
The profile is like nothing here, most boards are flat and shapeless, the Dagger works very well indeed, and I would say unique and is a every day board that excells at everything I have done so far, only a two hour ride, but feel it has more to tell me.
I loved the switchy glide of direction change when you turn on a wave, it engages with out that heavy back foot feeling, ya kno the having to push hard to keep control.
Tell dave I think his creation is super smashing and great... Have fun and you bet I'll have some more fun with my little gem of a board, will get some of the guys on it later too."
